. the publisher is redacting the material in a second edition of the book. at least 8,000 u.s. soldiers are involved in a new offensive in afghanistan. operation dragon strike is targeting the heart of taliban territory in the southern city of kandahar. u.s. commanders say there's a lot of tough fighting ahead, and with the force of close to 10,000 troops, this is the first time the afghan forces have have outnumbered their american counterparts. the verdict is guilty for a drunk driver who killed three people, including maryland native nick adenhart. he was a rookie pitcher for the los angeles angels. a california jury convicted him of second-degree murder. prosecutors say he had a blood alcohol level of almost three times the legal limit. gallo ran a red light causing the crash and then drove away. gallo was also driving without a license because he was on probation for a previous dui. >>> the trial for the man accused of killing sandra levy is being pushed back. he trial was scheduled to start next week but now a judge has delayed it two weeks to october 18th to try to resolve outsta

of rain in eastern north carolina. obviously flooding is going on there. this will be with us for the day. maybe lessening later in the afternoon. you can see how the moisture continues to stream north. look at those deep oranges. the deep tropical rich moisture moving north. with that and a storm tracking to this west. a tornado watch until 7 a.m. this is a short lived one. i imagine this will be replaced after 7 a.m. and basically everyone east of 95 including washington, much of howard county, eastern montgomery, down to the northern neck, southern maryland, eastern shore. tornado watch until 7 a.m. and as far as the flood watch, we have the flood watch until 9:00. the counties in green, which is the entire metro, southern maryland down to fredericksburg out to loudoun, eastern faulkier, prince william, manassas city, fairfax, that is a flood warning. through 9:00 p.m., a flood watch. the flood warnings go until 10:45 this morning. and as far as our rainfall projections potential any way through 1:00 this morning. we are still looking. see those yellowish areas, that's eight to ten inc

at reagan national hit some big turbulence this morning. this happened on the u.s. airways flight coming out of providence. two flight attendants needed to be treated. nobody else was hurt. >>> and u.s. airways is letting passengers planning to fly in and out of national change their flight without having to pay a penalty tonight. that travel advisory also extends to bwi marshal airport. continental is also offering waivers at three airports. have not heard of any other airlines. out on the rails, virginia railway express predicting delays up to an hour and a half. mark has delays of up to a half hour as well and amtrak had some delays all day long. be sure to check the status of any train you need to catch or the ones you're waiting for before you head out the door. we have links to amtrak, and mark at wusa9.com. all you have to do is click on traffic. >>> one of the westbound lanes of the columbia pike in arlington is blocked off by those orange construction barrels tonight. that's because the heavy rains today have created a sink hole and it is right near south wakefield. crews were able

. that shooting spree may have been motivated by an attempt to silence a witness. this car may have been used. two men have been taken into custody at the same address, one earlier today, one tonight. police have also recovered some weapons there, but it's not known if they were used in today's shooting spree. that gun battle happened around noon at the funeral services for murder victim ashley mccreigh. among the 600 people, rival gang members. >> suspects opened fire on the individuals in that car. >> reporter: the victims may have returned fire themselves before fleeing at high speed in this dodge durango, but they clipped this mercedes and then crashed into a parked van. inside the dodge, one man survived. another did not. it's not clear if he was killed by gunshots or the crash. 9news now has learned the identity of the dead man. he is jamal kotts of northwest ds. he has known jamal for years and the man known as big pon was running scared. >> he's been very worried. he witnessed the shooting that was on mozart beach a month to a month half ago. >> he was scared for his life? >> he was defini
